PRIMARY PURPOSE: Translation and/or interpretation to assist Head Start direct service staff ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Reason position exists is to perform these functions): • Accompany Teachers and Family Engagement Specialists on home visits to assure accurate communication between staff and • parents. • Provide Language Support services in infant, toddler, and/or preschool classrooms, as needed: • Communicate with children in their home language. • Maintain an orderly and physically/emotionally safe environment. • Participate in children's activities. • Use positive interactions with children including verbal and body language. • Duties as assigned by staff person in charge. • Maintain a positive attitude regarding the Head Start program and philosophy. • Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and welcoming of diversity. • Join the children for meals. Model social skills and good eating habits. • Interpret during parent meetings, conferences, and other meetings • Translate written materials for the program. • Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance, and welcoming of diversity REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABLILITIES: • Ability to meet deadlines. • Ability to present and relate to diverse client populations. • Professional appearance, presentation and demeanor always.
